Learn MoreRyan and Dirk were excellent. Well organized and managed the group well. Housing and food were very good. I really enjoyed my first visit to Africa and am already looking to return. Thanks!
The Kenya Mega was a very pleasant experience. We had an especially congenial group with some very good observers. Stephan did a very good job of running the trip, and it ended up exceeding my expectations (I am picky. I have seen over 8M birds, and have done a lot of traveling). Most of the lodges were wonderful, and the Kenyan people we met were very friendly.
This was my first Rockjumper tour and first organized group birding tour. I am not a dedicated birder (my wife is the birder) but it was still an enjoyable experience and left me willing to go on others with her. Paul was an excellent guide and I hope we can find another tour with him in the future. My only feedback on the trip would be that it seemed the itinerary was a day too long. There is lots of driving across Iceland, and I'm glad we were able to see some of the geologic and geyser sights, but would have rather spent the excess day getting out to the island to see the Puffin colony. The thing I was really hoping to see on this trip that I hadn't seen before was a Puffin on land, and the itinerary change that removed Flatey Island from the trip was disappointing. The lodging for the first two nights at Kast Guesthouse was underwhelming and I think I've had a larger room on a cruise ship. I realize there's probably not many lodging options out on that peninsula, so understand if it's the best available. Overall happy with the trip and will likely travel with Rockjumper again.
Julian is an excellent guide. He not only has a keen eye and ear, but he is patient, calm and always smiling. He and our driver, Roger, made a great team.
Lev is an outstanding guide. He really works hard to make sure everyone gets on the bird. Despite difficulties in PNG, he stays cool calm and collected. I am looking forward to going with Lev again. It was exhausting and wonderful. Thanks for all your support and advice-Katy
Glen & Lui were awesome leaders - couldn't have tried any harder to get the target birds and handled every issue with patience and skill!
