Since its formation, Rockjumper Birding Tours has been supporting the conservation of the birds that bring us many delightful hours of sheer bird watching pleasure.
Learn MoreI have waited a while before responding. Firstly I should like to say this was one of the best birding trips I have ever been on.(20+ and counting) Before I went I was concerned that 12 clients were too many. However Greg worked extremely hard with Hu and Richard to try to get everyone on every bird. He quickly summed up our respective birding abilities and responded to that with the help he provided. Thankfully there were very few 'narrow jungle paths' where the number inevitably restricted opportunities. I particularly appreciated the regular ebird lists which left me more time to concentrate on the actual birds and not scribbling in my notebook.
Ryan was outstanding .. patient and thoughtful. we got a lot of very difficult birds… we got lucky and he made it fun and exciting all in one … and we got all on most all birds :.. his knowledge was outstanding of the birds and mammals and our pelagic too good job Ryan
Wade was an excellent tour leader, he had all the ID skills and enthusiasm to encourage everyone and made sure everyone got on to the bird. Wade's observational abilities never failed to amaze me and his knowledge was far ranging and inclusive of questions. The local logistics team, including the drivers, deserve a special mention too. All in all a great tour in an interesting country which far exceeding my expectations.
Eric was my guide for the Spring 2025 Japan trip and a major reason why I picked the Taiwan tour. He was excellent, as expected.
I just completed the Ecuador - Northern II: Choco Cloud Forest; Eastern Andes (Paramo and Cloud Forest); and the Ultimate Amazon: Sumaco Foothills & Rio Napo for a total of 21 days. Adam Walleyn was our head guide and he did a fantasic job. He cleary knew all the birds in the region by both sight and sound and worked extremely hard to get everyone on the tours to see every bird. He was very clear in describing what the agenda was for the day, and what we we'd be doing relative to hiking, terrain, hiking difficulties, etc. He was very well organized and very friendly, a perfect guide. Adam also filled out ebird trip reports for every spot we visited over the 21 days and sent them to all tour members every night, so we could easily keep track of the species seen and immediately accept the reports into our individual ebird accounts. Not including birds only heard and not seen, I had 570 species for the trip. I'd also like to praise Rockjumper's local guide on this entire trip, Marcello. He was very friendly, energetic and man did he know the birds of Ecuador and how to find them. His hearing was absolutely acute and very tuned into the birds. Both guides carried scopes and instantly got birds into scope view for everyone. Very happy with the guides and the overall trip.
This was my 2nd (Relaxed ) tour. As far as I can tell relaxed means staying more than 1 night in most places. It means not too strenuous hikes. Not sure it means shorter days. On this tour the ones that brought us back straight to dinner were mostly by our own choice. The relaxed tours are a great option. Paul is an excellent guide and lovely person. He is a good driver, which is important. He was good at adjusting the order of birding places for the day when necessary. He did a great job accommodating for the medical needs that came up. He maintained his patience and cheerfulness throughout. He had good relationships with the hosts of the various places we stayed. I would certainly go anywhere with him and recommend him to everyone.
